POSTION SUMMARY

This position is open now. The Holden Store/Business Associate assists the Business Lead in managing the third largest revenue center for Holden Village and promoting the organization’s mission through an on-line and in-person store.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

(principal duties and responsibilities; such as categories supported, staff size, volume managed, etc)

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Duties specific to Holden Village Store:

  • Under direction of the Business Lead assist in the operations of the store/post office
  • Manage the counter and cash register assisting customers with product selection and sales transactions
  • Ensure accuracy and security of all forms of payment
  • Create an atmosphere of welcome for customers through exemplary customer service
  • Respond to customer questions or concerns in a prompt and professional manner
  • Undertake store administrative duties including stocking products and maintaining proper levels of inventory by noting low stock levels and passing on feedback from customers
  • Accomplish accurate cash handling transactions including cash counts, and maintaining accurate financial records of sales
  • Check merchandise shipments for accuracy in product, quantities and price against purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices

Duties specific to the Post Office:

  • Assist in daily operations including collecting, sorting, and bagging outgoing mail, and sorting and distributing incoming mail, along with maintaining store hours to sell postage, answer customer questions, and handle shipments
  • Maintain accurate inventory of stamps and mailing supplies

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:
    • Demonstrated customer service experience
    • Ability to interact positively with people at all levels and in all capacities, i.e. vendors, guests, volunteers, managers, directors
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills
    • Sound judgment, problem solving, and decision-making abilities
    • Experience with QuickBooks or similar POS system preferred
    • Prior retail experience

  • Enthusiasm for and ability to work in a remote wilderness setting
  • Willingness to participate in a mutual review after 6 months

  • Serve the community as a leader and role model by serving in other Village roles and projects. These include, but are not limited to, first aid team, fire brigade, seasonal program events and activities, help with worship, and attendance at volunteer trainings
  • All staff members are expected to engage & help all Villagers to integrate into community life
  • Abides by Holden Village’s Community Health Protocols and Practices

Education

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
