Seasonal Art Studio Technician

POSTION SUMMARY

This position is open now! The Seasonal Art Studio Technician is responsible for promoting and supporting arts programs in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Holden Village. The studio tech is primarily responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere in the art studio and facilitating a space where all can explore their creativity through visual arts. The studio tech also assists with the art studio space and provides support for guest  artists. The studio tech must be outgoing and enjoy interacting with guests and supporting studio visitors in exploring their creativity.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Encouraging people of all skill levels to realize their potential as artists.
  • Maintains art studio hours and facilitates a welcoming atmosphere for people of all backgrounds and abilities to explore their creativity through art.
  • Assists with innovative art programs and classes that center Holden Village’s mission and values, specifically relating to sustainability, justice and spirituality.
  • Cleans and organizes the art studio, stewards art supplies and looms, takes inventory and orders supplies.
  • Attends weekly Program team meetings
  • Assists in other aspects of the Program team’s work and other departments at the discretion of the Program Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

(position specifications; such as knowledge/education, skills, problem solving/decision making, risk/bottom line results, management responsibility – people and functions)

Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:

  • Knowledgeable about a variety of techniques and mediums such as weaving, sewing, knitting, natural dyeing, basket weaving, drawing and painting; willingness to learn new skills and mediums.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, adapt and be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
  • Enthusiasm for working with others in groups or on a one-on-one basis and teaching Studio visitors of various skill levels and experiences.
  • Ability to interact positively and hospitably with people at all levels and in all capacities both inside and outside of the Village, i.e. guests, volunteers, managers, directors.
  • Sound judgment, creativity, problem solving, flexibility and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to see the “big picture” and be proactive.

  • Commitment to the terms of the Staff Covenant, including: attending worship, weekly staff meetings, and participation in Village contributions of the dish team, garbology, and stoking
  • Serve the community as a leader and role model by serving in other Village roles and projects. These include, but are not limited to, first aid team, fire brigade, seasonal program events and activities, help with worship, and attendance at volunteer trainings
  • All staff members are expected to engage & help all Villagers to integrate into community life
  • Abides by Holden Village’s Community Health Protocols and Practices

As a Seasonal Volunteer, you are eligible for the following benefits:

Education

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
