Physical Plant Lead

POSTION SUMMARY

This position is open spring 2025. Responsible for maintaining the physical plant of Holden Village, from historic buildings to a picturesque landscape. Must be willing to supervise many volunteers at once while also doing independent work. Ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work as well as administrative tasks.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

(principal duties and responsibilities; such as categories supported, staff size, volume managed, etc)

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages a team of 8-10 long-term staff members spread across a variety of departments.
  • Maintain Holden Village Physical Plant – lodges, chalets, workshops, grounds, nearby trails, storage
    facilities and other infrastructure.
  •  Manage work orders and make sure they’re completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist Operations Manager with facilities-related project planning.
  • Be able to coordinate with external agencies to provide assistance to the Village.
  • Keep facilities code compliant with Washington State Historic Building Code.
  •  Be knowledgeable on federal regulations specific to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
  • Work with Operations Manager on firewood production in the summer to heat buildings during the
    winter months.
  • Fill in gaps on the following teams as needed: Carpentry, Repairs, Mavericks, Trails, Painting, and
    Lawns & Gardens.
  •  Be on-call to assist with operational emergencies.
  • Update turnover files on a consistent basis and keep accurate records of work done

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

(position specifications; such as knowledge/education, skills, problem solving/decision making, risk/bottom line results, management responsibility – people and functions)

Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:

  • At least two years of people management experience is required.
  • Volunteer experience at Holden Village preferred.
  • Possess a commitment to high quality and effective work.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities.
  • Facilities management experience preferred, not required.
  • Be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Willingness to operate heavy equipment or use power tools. Training provided on-site.
  • Create a team culture that values safety procedures, living in community, and working efficiently.
  • Be well-versed in government regulations, specifically within the Forest Service, Department of
    Ecology, and the Archeological and Historic Preservation Act of 1974.
  • Desire to be part of an intentional community in the North Cascades.

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
