Head Driver

POSTION SUMMARY

Responsible for coordination of the transportation program, including driver training, fleet oversight, and level 1 vehicle maintenance. Experience driving manual transmission vehicles required. Must be good at logistics, be detail-oriented, and have a very strong safety ethic. As a driver, you are the first and last person guests see during their stay at Holden Village. A strong sense of hospitality is essential for this position.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

(principal duties and responsibilities; such as categories supported, staff size, volume managed, etc)

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

● Lifting, carrying, loading and unloading freight.
● Coordinating vehicles and drivers for transportation between Holden Village and boat
dock at Lucerne via a digital scheduling system.
● Driving vehicles (manual and automatic) with passengers between Holden Village and
Lucerne. This includes passenger vans, trucks, school buses and other vehicles.
● Coordinating transport logistics between Operations, Business, and other departments.
● Training new drivers on the Holden Village fleet which includes school buses, flatbed
trucks, and other unique vehicles.
● Leading drivers meetings and providing feedback to the driver team.
● Troubleshooting vehicles if not functioning properly.
● Doing level 1 technician work on all vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

(position specifications; such as knowledge/education, skills, problem solving/decision making, risk/bottom line results, management responsibility – people and functions)

Specific knowledge and skills include but are not limited to the following:

● CDL license (class B or above) preferred but not required.
● Physical strength to lift and haul items weighing at least 50 pounds.
● Adept skills in driving manual transmission vehicles, and being able to teach others if
needed.
● Driving experience at Holden or other remote locations is preferred.
● Ability to work independently and with a team.
● Can use both Google and Microsoft suite with little guidance.
● Willingness to work outdoors most of the time in various conditions.
● Be adept in road safety and communication.
● Maintains enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
● Public speaking and leadership skills for managing guests during transport.
● Flexibility and ability to perform other operational duties as required.

Education

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
