Roger Kluck

Roger Kluck is a mediator and attorney, and expert at reducing violence, healing trauma, increasing empathy, and building teams and community. He has been active as a facilitator and trainer for the Alternatives to Violence Project since 2004. He served four years as the President of the Alternatives to Violence Project U.S.A. (“AVP”), and its 5,000 facilitators and trainers. He serves currently as the North American Representative to AVP International. Roger retired recently as the executive director of Projects for a Civil Society, the local nonprofit sponsor for AVP in the Puget Sound region. He has spent 1,000s of hours in prisons working to reduce violence and help people leave gangs. For 6 years (precovid), he ran a program for incarcerated veterans with PTSD in the Pierce County jail and has worked with over 600 veterans. With the State Department, he has done workshops with youth from Iraq, Myanmar, Syria, Mexico, Brazil, and Israel; and adults from Syria, Palestine, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Kenya, and more – working with groups from over 30 countries.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

Join us for a condensed version of the transformative Basic AVP workshop, designed to provide practical tools for conflict resolution, personal growth, and building peaceful communities. The Alternative to Violence Project (AVP) is rooted in experiential learning, offering participants a chance to explore nonviolent communication, self-awareness, and strategies for resolving tension in constructive ways. While this workshop is typically three full days, this shorter version will still offer valuable insights and interactive exercises aimed at fostering positive change in ourselves and our relationships with others. Come be a part of this empowering journey toward peace and understanding.

      Education

      Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
