Teaching Faculty

Martha Monson Lowe

Martha has woven baskets for 37 years. She started the basket weaving program at Holden in 1993, and designed the Holden Bread Basket. Her love of weaving and creating became her profession for the last 25 years. Her baskets have won numerous awards at the Saint Louis Art Fair, Lakefront Festival of Arts, the American Craft Council, and the Des Moines Arts Festival, among others. She focuses on form and texture, going beyond traditional weaving, creating her own unique designs. In 2016-17 she was the Village Artist at Holden, teaching many classes for guests and staff. She has also taught basket weaving at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa.

      Education

Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
