Larry Rasmussen

Larry Rasmussen, a longtime recurring faculty member, is a renowned Christian environmental ethicist and the Reinhold Niebuhr Professor Emeritus of Social Ethics at Union Theological Seminary. He is the author of the recent book, The Planet You Inherit: Letters to My Grandchildren when Uncertainty’s a Sure Thing. He is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Christian Ethics. He has mentored a generation of scholars in eco-theology and green religion, rooted in practices of environmental justice within community contexts.

The planet is undergoing a new chapter in its 14 billion year evolution. What is unique is that this is the first geological event brought about by collective and cumulative human activity. Since geology cannot be dialed back, what do we do now? What is the arc of responsibility?
