Karen Beal

Karen Beal enjoys exploring the evolutionary arc of justice and spirituality. Her journey is formed by studies and practices in eastern and western wisdom traditions. With a PhD in Counseling Psychology and years of experience in educational, nonprofit, faith-based, and mental health care settings, she remains committed to equity and inclusion and leads spiritually attentive groups and retreats. Most recently, she directed Jesuit Volunteer EnCorps, a program of JVC Northwest for older adults engaged in social justice and spiritual formation. Currently, she is a spiritual director and writer. She co-leads an ongoing group, The Soulful Song Gathering, with Jack Kennedy and Mark Lesniewski at the Franciscan Spiritual Center in Portland, OR.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

We will explore the movement towards greater equity and sustainability for all of life, giving rise to our questions of, “What is mine to do?”, “How can we, individually and collectively, meet the new needs of these times?”, and “How can we spiritually thrive amidst this tumultuous unraveling of old systems for the sake of birthing the new?”

      Education

      Holden Village is a community where your questions are valued and encouraged. Most programs led by visiting teaching faculty occur during the summer months. However, Holden also invites faculty to teach sessions for special events and retreats throughout the rest of the year.
