Haven Herrin

Haven Herrin (they/them) is a queer, trans, and white Southerner from Texas. Painting, printmaking, and dance are how they first came to understand and interact with the world. They carried those passions through formal schooling at the University of Richmond in Virginia and informally through culture work like DJ’ing queer dance nights and designing logos for Trans-led projects. They served in many roles over 15 years at Soulforce, an LBTQI organization working at the intersection of sexuality, gender, race, and Christian Supremacy. It was there that Haven learned how to integrate the intensity of opposition research with care of spirit and body. They recently completed their studies at Yale Divinity School, focusing on how empire shapes our perception of time, space and sound. They are excited to bring their curiosity about the power of ritual and art to reclaim that kind of power to their community-based work.

SESSION DESCRIPTION

Whether we’re conscious of them or not, rituals are woven throughout our day-to-day lives, guiding our attention, telling the stories of our lives, and often revealing our values. How do we bring intention and imagination to these practices so that they can be tools of strength and transformation? And how do we connect our individual practices to the collective, so that our communities can become powerful expressions of love, justice, and grace? Join Haven and Cole for an expansive and engaging exploration of embodied practice, ritual design, and community transformation.
